Mark Roytman, Summer 2011
Dear Marianna, I like to thank you for the wonderful tours that you have given, I was fortunate to attend in The Museum of Contemporary Art. Your professionalism and enthusiasm are unmatched. Perhaps, your being an artist yourself enables you to go into depth and make your narrative so vivid as if one participates in the creation of works of art that you presented for us. It has been a very structuring and therapeutic experience.Thank you for everything, I am looking forward for more Sincerely yours, Mark Roytman.

Althea Teamer:
"On behalf of Marianna Buchwald I write this reference letter . I have had the pleasure of working with Marianna on a few of her many projects . I find her to be a woman of deep commitment to whatever she sets her mind to do . I have observed her planning and developing skills .
She has the knack of organization which involves engaging people of great expertise and working with them to produce skillful outcomes. One such project involved a group of talented artists gathering in Hanover Germany and Syke Germany for an outstanding artistic stage production and an artist in residency gallery workshop .
From the standpoint of a US citizen I found this to be an exceptional feat as many of us traveled from the United States to work alongside German residents for these events. In addition to producing amazing productions, Marianna served as translator, and travel agent by arranging housing, dining , and transportation accommodations . It is easy to see that Mariana is a diligent worker who graciously puts the needs of others before herself ."Sincerely, Althea Frazier Teamer

To Whom It May Concern:
I have had the pleasure of working with Marianna Buchwald in many capacities over the past 4 years. She has brought her talent to The Galaxie in the form of a visual artist, a performance artist and an extremely capable and talented teaching artist for our
variety of youth based programs.
As a visual artist, Marianna is motivated and creative, participating in a number of exhibitions hosted by The Galaxie, as well as having been invited to participate in
our artist residency; Art Jam 2009, during which she spent an intensive week creating work in
our collection of studios, and presenting at the culminating exhibition. Marianna’s greatest contribution to The Galaxie has been in the form of Teaching Artist for our youth art camps. With her amazing knowledge of performance in the
area of mime, mask and theater, Marianna continually motivated, inspired, and encouraged
the student body to use both their minds and their bodies to create stories, explore concepts,
examine the use of masks and costuming and perform.
Marianna’s calm and focused demeanor continually aided the students in their creative pursuits, creating a safe and open environment for students to explore the depth of
their capabilities while assisting them in their focus, and creating a general feeling of calm
with-in the classroom.
I would highly recommend Marianna in all areas related to performance instruction for kids of all ages.
Sincerely,
Nicolle Wood, director
The Galaxie

2009:
Review by Sandra Simonson about Tribute:
"Mirror Images with Mr. Buchwald"
a performance with the International Art Group at Peter Jones Gallery: Caffeeine lll
"On Saturday April 4.2009, Marianna Buchwald directed another of her multi media productions with members of the art group,The International Art Group at the Peter Jones Gallery.
The crowd overfilled the small theatre and from the response of the audience it was very well received.
The production this season was in honor of her father's Hans-Ulrich Buchwald, a highly respected wood cutter and mask builder in Germany. The performance as always was set on a small stage with visuals of Mr. Buchwald's woodcuts, and some of Marianna's very soft paintings - an effective contrast to the work of her father. A sound track put together by Ted Ehnle, media projections byTate Madler, and six dancers, Hillary Jirka, Laury Goux, Sherree Blakemore, Sue Yan,Ted Ehnle and Alan Emerson- Hicks defined by the magnificent masks of Mr. Buchwald. Several poems
written by the German poet Hans-Joachim Haecker, for a book of Mr.Buchwald's woodcuts, were read in both English and German by Claudia Finn and Marianna with some overlap in the reading which effectively increased the power of the poems as the voices echoed across the
stage. The dancing was strong and effective.
The last reading, a powerful statement about our need to end the violence of all societies, was complimented by a very simple pastel work by Marianna that although
decidedly abstract became almost a symbol of life and hope. The production certainly would be enhanced by a larger theatre and a screen big enough to display the works of both of the Buchwalds without obstruction from the dancers. But in its current form it held up verywell and provided the audience with an exciting and satisfying evening. Hats off to Marianna Buchwald"
Shirley Moore: summer 2012
I am so thrilled about the International Art Group that is held every second Monday at 1505 W. Morse in Rogers Park here in Chicago. I would like to give all of you a little insight into some of my personal experiences and observations.

Olumuyiwa Ojo:
Letter Of Support For Ms. Buchwald
My name is Olumuyiwa Ojo. I work as a dance instructor for Whirlwind Education Company in the Chicago Public Schools as well as at the Lou Conte Dance Studios of The Hubbard Street Dance Chicago.
I have known Ms. Buchwald for more than 10 years and I can sincerely vouch for her competence as an artist practitioner in many areas.
She is a talented performance artist, as well as a director of greatly imaginative shows. I am privy to this knowledge because I have been fortunate to have worked with her in many of these shows over the past 10 years.
Most recently, in June 2011, I participated with her in a mask theater performance that she directed and conceived The Transformational Travelers and also during 2004 and 2005 a piece about Australian Aboriginal legends, which was performed at the outdoor festival in Hannover, Germany.
Through my association with her, I have been exposed to her skills as a painter, sculptor, dancer and as an art historian, specializing in masks and their societal significance.

Addi Kremer:
