The Decaf Show
curated by Alan Emerson Hicks,
June 16. - June 27. 2012 at Phantom Gallery, 4161 N. Damen
If you’re looking for a great variety of interesting art, look no further. The Decaf show is displayed in a relaxed, inviting and friendly environment. The work is diverse and thought provoking, providing everything you might be looking for. Included are abstract paintings, representational and everything in between. Painting and sculpture dominates the menu for the hungry art consumer. Nature and industrial materials are common themes in the work displayed, which struck me because of the importance of these elements presently. If you appreciate art that speaks to the time period in which it was made, come here. The contrast between themes of nature and industry tie in together wonderfully throughout the gallery showing as a whole. Even in some individual pieces were these themes contrasted, and if not together in one piece they would accent the pieces around them with strong presence of the theme. I had a lot of fun enjoying neat works of art that were all beautiful, different, and relevant.
